September 9th Face-to-Face with Tom Ammiano: SF Mayoral Candidate, State Senate Candidate (district 20) Ash Bhatt, and Dr. Badi Badiozamani: Recall Candidate for Governor

EVENT REPORT

IACC's September 9th event was held at Lavash Bistro in San Francisco - SF

Mayoral Candidate Tom Ammiano, State Senate Candidate (district 20) Ash Bhatt, and Dr. Badi Badiozamani, the first Iranian Candidate to run for Governor of California all addressed a crowd of over seventy members and guests.

This was the second IACC sponsored event to reach out to the Iranian community before the November election in an effort to get them to hear first hand from the candidates and their issues. The Chamber recognizes the necessity of getting the community informed about politics in San Francisco, the candidates, as well as their platforms.

Other Iranian-American Bay Area organizations co-sponsored the event included National Iranian American Council, Society of Iranian Professionals, American Iranian Council, Bay Area Iranian American Voter Association, Payvand, and Persian Center.

Supervisor Tom Ammiano spoke about his plans for San Francisco, the schools, the homeless problem, and other issues important to San Francisco voters. Mr. Ammiano sees three major challenges for San Francisco. Rescuing San Francisco's troubled schools, reviving the local economy, and establishing a clean, professional government in City Hall. He also talked about his experience as an Italian American and his first hand knowledge of the immigrant issues.

Mr. Ash Bhatt who is running for the State Senate from District 20, spoke about his background, his accomplishments and plans for the community. He also stressed how our communities should get together and support each others candidates as we are facing many of the same issues as recent immigrants to this great country of ours.

The final guest, Dr. Badi who is the first Iranian - American to run for the Governors seat, impressed members of the audience by his positions on issues, from rescinding DMV registration fee, to saving schools by bringing back those laid-off due to budget cuts, bringing businesses back to a business-friendly California, creating jobs, saving California from bankruptcy, and finally bringing honesty & integrity to California government.

IACC wrapped up this informative, fun and dynamic evening by announcing the next event planned for October. Please check the website for the location and the venue.

The next event is planned for September and we hope to invite Iranians from all over the Bay Area to visit the wonderful region of Marin on our next stop around the Bay!

Each meeting will be focused on regional area of important Iranain business activity or a concentration of Iranians. If you would like to arrange for an IACC event to be held in your community, please contact us immediately.
