August
14th Face-to-Face with Gavin Newsom: SF Mayoral Candidate
EVENT
REPORT
On
August 14th, 2003 over 100 Iranian-American Community Members
came together for a face to face with Gavin Newsom, San Francisco's
mayoral candidate. This event was held at Lavash Bistro in
San Francisco and sponsored by IACC with many other distinguished
Bay Area organizations
as co-sponsors - including National Iranian American Council,
Society of Iranian Professionals, American Iranian Council,
Bay Area Iranian American Voter Association, Payvand, and
Persian Center. The evening turned out to be dynamic, informative
and a huge success.
The
main goal of this event was to introduce Supervisor Gavin
Newsom, his Campaign Deputy Field Director, Ahsha Safai,
and his Intern Coordinator, Bahador Hariri (Click
for feature article on Iranian.com), to the Iranian
Community and to provide
a forum for Mr. Newsom to communicate his goals and agenda
for the City. But most importantly, his message of diversity
to the Iranian American
Community.
Mr.
Newsom spoke about his commitment to diversity and its reflection
on his campaign staff - his Iranian-Americans Deputy Field
Director Mr. Safai and his intern, Mr. Hariri. According
to Mr. Safai, his position on Supervisor Newsom's campaign
provides an opportunity to discuss issues
that are important to the Iranian-American community as
well as educates Supervisor Newsom on the nuances of the
politics close to the hearts of Iranian-Americans.
The
evening received high approvals from members and guests
alike resulting in numerous requests for more additional gatherings.
The
next event is planned for September and we hope to invite
Iranians from all over the Bay Area to visit the wonderful
region of Marin on our next stop around the Bay!
Each
meeting will be focused on regional area of important Iranain
business activity or a concentration of Iranians. If you
would like to arrange for an IACC event to be held in your
community, please contact
us immediately.
